Can I use Wordscope if I already work with Trados or memoQ?

Yes. You do not need to replace your current CAT tool or migrate your organisation before trying Wordscope. Wordscope Translator's Assistant will help you translate your documents and store your translations so you never have to translate or proofread the same sentence twice. It consults various sources to provide translation or terminology suggestions:
  • Private "Translation Memories"
  • Public "Translation Memories"
  • Machine Translation systems
  • Glossaries

Translation Memories

By using a translation memory during your projects, you will never need to translate the same sentence twice.

How does it work?

When translating a document, you will translate each sentence one by one. As soon as a sentence is translated, it is stored in a "Translation Memory".

A Translation Memory (TM) is a database of previously translated sentences.

When translating a new document, Wordscope will search for identical or similar sentences already stored in the translation memory and display them as translation suggestions.

You can then accept a suggestion, replace it with a new translation, or modify it according to your preferences. The new or modified translation will then be stored in the translation memory.


Wordscope offers two types of Translation Memories: Public Memories and Private Memories.

Private Translation Memories

As the name suggests, private Translation Memories are designed to store your own translations securely.

Note: We strongly recommend that you create at least one Translation Memory that you can use for all your projects.

Public Translation Memories

Public Translation Memories are built from translations that are made available to the public on multilingual websites or shared by their owner (such as the European Commission or certain Governments). They are generally very reliable because they contain translations by professionals.
Note: The content of Public Translation Memories cannot be changed.

Click on the "Translation Memories" tab (Settings panel) to select or create a Translation Memory.


Machine translation

A machine translation (MT) system provides automated translations. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the quality of the translations provided by these systems is much improved. However, it depends on the type of text to be translated: it can be suitable for technical or legal texts, for example. Wordscope provides you with these translations in the form of suggestions that you can accept or modify according to your preferences.

The results can then be stored in a TM.

Click on the "Machine translation" tab (Settings panel)to select one or more MT systems.

Terminology Engines (Wordscope Global Terminology)

You can activate as many Terminology Engines as you want (this will not affect the response time). Wordscope will return some results from each of them.
However, you will get more accurate results by selecting only certain engines that are more suited to the text you are translating.

Editor options

Spell and Grammar

Pick one option for the target editor (Antidote and Wordscope cannot be used together).

Changing the spellchecker requires a page reload.

Target and suggestions

When enabled, opening an empty segment copies the top match into the target field. Turn this off if you prefer to type or choose a suggestion manually.

TM suggestions below this score are rejected. Machine translation and LLM suggestions are not affected.

Security

When outsourcing projects (Wordscope Team only), linguists can work without a Wordscope account. If you check this option, they will be required to log in with a Wordscope account to work on the project.

The security parameters enable you to specify what content will be visible to other users in Translation or Revision mode when you share your project with them. However, these parameters do not affect your own view of the project when you're logged in as its owner.

If you wish to evaluate the security parameters from the perspective of an anonymous user, you need to log out.

Masking sensitive information in the source text

Enabled:

To improve the confidentiality of your documents, you can anonymize the source text by entering a series of words that Wordscope will hide from all AI tools. The hidden sections will be automatically restored by Wordscope in the translation suggestions. You can also use more complex expressions known as Regex. Please refer to the documentation for more information.

Note: RegEx (or Regular Expressions) is a syntax used to search for substrings within a segment of text. You can use it here to replace words, modify the typographic presentation of suggestions, and much more. It's a powerful tool, but it can also be quite complex. Fortunately, you can find plenty of information online. ChatGPT can also be extremely helpful if you want to build complex expressions, just type something like: "Write a regex to identify email addresses in a string" then copy and paste the result here!

Flags: Use "g" for global replace, "i" for case-insensitive search, "u" when working with Unicode characters. You can combine them, e.g. "giu" (without quotes).

Tip: Use \u00A0 for non-breaking space, \u2011 for non-breaking hyphen, \u202F for narrow non-breaking space.

You can add as many Public or Private MT (Machine Translation) as you want (this will not affect the response time).
Notes: If you share or outsource your project, private and public MTs that you attach to the project are shared with all participants.
If you are working on a project created by another user, you can still add your private MTs to the project, they will remain private and will not be shared with other project participants. On the other hand, you cannot modify the list of MTs defined by the project owner.
